Apprentice swap sparks new skills and experiences across Barnsley
Berneslai Homes and Barnsley Council have launched a month-long apprentice swap, giving electrical apprentices a unique opportunity to broaden their experience and deepen their understanding of the sector.
The initiative sees Barnsley Council apprentices stepping into the world of property maintenance, while Berneslai Homes apprentices gain valuable insight into electrical work through placements with Barnsley Council.
The swap is designed to improve practical learning, build confidence, and strengthen the future workforce.
Apprentices have gained experience in learning different techniques, working with various tools, and embracing new ways of working.
From rewiring homes to maintaining public buildings, the swap has encouraged adaptability, teamwork, and an understanding of how electricians keep Barnsley running smoothly.
John Lees, Head of Operational Delivery at Berneslai Homes, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for our apprentices to step outside their usual settings and experience a different side of the trade. It’s all about building well-rounded professionals who understand the full scope of electrical work in both domestic and commercial settings."
Seth Reape, Electrical Apprentice at Berneslai Homes, said: "The placement with the council is going well, really enjoying it. We have been working on a lot of different systems, beyond what we normally do, so we are gaining some valuable experience. We have been working at Barnsley Golf Club, wiring up a new fire alarm system."
