National Involvement Week 10-14 November
We’re proud to support Tpas Involvement Week on 10-14 November, celebrating the positive difference that tenant involvement makes to communities, services, and people’s lives.
Our engagement team will be out and about across Barnsley supporting a range of events. You can read more below.
Tpas, the tenant engagement experts, are running a series of free online events with a different theme each day. You can read more about what's on and book your place using the links below. We’ll also be sharing some of our own local stories and the activity of the engagement team throughout the week, as well as launching some fantastic new involvement opportunities for current tenants and leaseholders.
Day 1, Monday 10 November: Involvement - The Big Picture
Involvement isn’t just about listening, it’s about acting, changing, and improving services and communities. Today sets the tone for the week, covering the Regulator’s expectations, national standards, and real examples of great engagement from Tpas accredited landlords.
- Free online session: The Regulator's Perspective (11am-12noon)
Hear directly from the Regulator of Social Housing on the Tenant Involvement and Accountability Standard. - Free online workshop: Tpas Engagement Standards and Accreditation (1.30-2.30pm)
Learn how the Tpas National Engagement Standards can be used to review, benchmark and strengthen involvement activities.
Berneslai Homes engagement team activity: Monday/Tuesday: Scrutiny Panel mini project - door knock exercise with questionnaires for communal areas that don’t pay a service charge.
Day 2, Tuesday 11 November: Involvement on the Ground
This day focuses on grassroots community engagement, from walkabouts and neighbourhood projects to local tenants’ associations that are making a difference to places and services. Real people. Real stories. Real change.
- Free online session: Working Together - Strengthening Tenants and Residents Associations (10.30-11.30am)
Join Louise Holt, Head of Tpas Membership, for this practical online session exploring what makes tenants and residents’ associations work well, and what can get in the way. - Free online session: Case Study Showcase - Tenant-Led Neighbourhood Impact (1.30–2.30pm)
Practical examples of tenant involvement at a local level. From estate walkabouts to community projects, see how tenant voice is shaping everyday improvements.
Berneslai Homes engagement team activity: Darton East Ward Alliance - attending this community meeting to introduce the team and explore opportunities for partnership working in this area.
Day 3, Wednesday 12 November: Rethinking Involvement – Innovation and Digital
Involvement is changing. This day explores new ideas, creative methods, and digital tools that are reshaping how landlords and tenants connect.
- Free online workshop: Get Confident with AI (10–11am)
This practical, down-to-earth session is for anyone new to AI who wants to understand what it is, how it’s used, and how it can help in everyday life and community work. - Free online workshop: Creative New Methods in Engagement (2–3.30pm)
Try out deliberative democracy, co-design and arts-based techniques in this practical, hands-on session with Caritas Charles.

Day 4, Thursday 13 November: Involvement for Everyone – Inclusion and Representation
Good involvement includes everyone. This day looks at whose voices are missing, why representation matters, and how to embed equity and inclusion in practice.
- Free online workshop: A Seat at the Table (10–11.30am)
Based on Tpas’s recent report, Kai Jackson will explore how ethnic minority voices can be better represented in housing engagement, with lived experience and clear steps for change.
Berneslai Homes engagement team activity: Barnsley Council North Area Council networking event, plus Customer Services Committee meeting opened to tenants who want to observe with a view to being involved in future roles.
Day 5, Friday 14 November: Celebrating Tenant Involvement
This final day is about inspiration, challenge, and celebration, with tenants leading the conversation and showing what works.
- Free online showcase: Celebrating Tenant Involvement (11am-1pm)
During the Tpas online showcase, tenants from across the country will share their perspectives on involvement.
Berneslai Homes engagement team activity: Damp and mould training drop-in session at Community Shop Hoyland and attendance at Barnsley Foodbank Partnership at Staincross Methodist Church.
