Working together to tackle anti-social behaviour
We received reports from tenants and local councillors about anti-social behaviour (ASB) and environmental issues in the Cockerham Lane flats area.
Lisa, one of our neighbourhood officers, organised a meeting with tenants, our ASB team, our Neighbourhoods team, two local councillors, the local NHS Mental Health team, Barnsley Council’s Safer Neighbourhoods team, Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live team and South Yorkshire Police in Royston to get people’s views on the best way to deal with the issues.
Everyone agreed that the look of the area needed improving, which was important to people in the community.
Lisa worked with the different agencies to:
- Remove numerous abandoned cars and fly-tipping
- Start investigating three homes where we’d received reports of ASB and drug-related issues
- Clear moss and car parts from the top of the garages
- Professionally clean the bin stores
- Trim and tidy up the seeded bushes, trees and planters
Lisa said: “What we have achieved is a more desirable place to live where the residents can take pride in their community and take ownership of maintaining their surroundings which they have already started to do.”
